Australian MP Claims Project Gotham Should be Banned

‘It glorifies speed and power.’ Well, duh!

Interesting news breaking over the weekend sees Australian MP Paul Gibson make a surprisingly strong attack on Bizarre Creations’ latest offering, Project Gotham Racing 2.

As head of Australia’s road safety watchdog StaySafe Committee, Gibson issued the following statement:

“This game sends the wrong message to young people. It is actually glorifying speed and power. It is clearly an inappropriate depiction of speed behaviour. If I had my way I would ban it... It's better to be safe than sorry. Games like this and things like car-surfing in film clips and in movies are undoing a lot of the effort authorities are putting into road safety.”

It also glorifies drifting and handbrake turns, though this seems to have passed Gibson by…

His comments came after he realised there were realistic depictions of Sydney, Australia in the game. He intends to lobby the Office of Film and Literature Classification for action.

However, it would seem that Gibson has made the classic error of believing that people are unable to differentiate between games and - you know - not games…

In other news, officials in New Zealand have called for a ban on sales of Sonic the Hedgehog, following a spate of high-speed roly-poly incidents!
