Yesterday marked the long awaited PC release of Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy XI in the USA. It has arrived some 18 months after the original Japanese PS2 version, although massive sales are expected. Priced at $50 (circa £30) the package contains Final Fantasy XI, the Rise of the Zilart expansion pack, and a 30 day subscription to PlayOnline. There will be a monthly fee of $12.95 (circa £8) thereafter.
The news gives European gamers hope that Square-Enix will now turn its attention to PAL territories and announce a European release in the near future. Autumn 2004 seems like a realistic target for a PAL launch, but if you can’t wait that long, you know where the import shops are.
Keep your fingers crossed and we’ll keep you posted.
