Nintendo’s Kyoto office has quashed rumours that the “unpiratable” iQue console announced recently is to be made available outside of China.
As you may know, the device was thought to be under consideration for various South East Asian countries, as well as parts of Africa and South and Central America.
“At this point in time the iQue is only for China. There are no plans for a release outside of that country,” said a Nintendo spokesman in a statement. “China has the infrastructure to enable us to quickly roll out the machine and the network that powers it.”
Not a massive surprise really, though we would imagine that if iQue manages to capture the imagination of the Chinese gamers, and at the same time frustrates the endemic piracy problems faced by the country, perhaps other nations may get to tinker with the quirky little closed-platform Nintendo 64 derivative.
As ever, we’ll bring you everything Nintendo, right here, as it breaks.
