Electronic Arts bolsters racing development with truck of money
Electronic Arts, the world’s biggest third-party developer/publisher, has announced that it has bought Studio 33 in a deal that sees the entire studio, its IP, assets and staff fall under the control of the US monster.

Based in Liverpool, UK and formed from the fall-out of Psygnosis, Studio 33 is best known for its well-received Formula 1 games, as well as Destruction Derby Arenas. Of course, these SCEE titles remain with Sony Europe.

“I couldn’t be happier with the calibre of talent that will join EA in this agreement,” said EA Executive Vice President Bruce McMillan. “The new team is already working on several projects that will be announced in the future. I predict that very shortly, EA NorthWest will be a globally recognised powerhouse of interactive entertainment. North Western England is a creative centre that will continue to grow and gain recognition,” continued McMillan. “There are more than 2000 active developers in the region and a cluster of globally recognised universities and art colleges supplying an on-going talent pipeline. This is a great place to make videogames.”

It is a great place to make videogames. And to wear shell-suits too!

We’ll bring you updates as to what driving goodness Studio 33 is charged with in the coming months.
