Donkey Konga! World’s first screens!

It's one of those 'not beating them, deciding to join them' moments.

The first screens from Donkey Konga, the music and rhythm game from Namco and Nintendo, have been released to a somewhat surprised Nintendo fanbase.

The main game seems to have taken a break from what we’ve come to expect from this kind of title, with a series of mini-games augmenting the usual timing-based action. As you can see, there’s a climbing game that seems to rely upon hitting the correct drum skin in order to get to the goal at the top of the screen.

In other news, Nintendo Japan revealed that a GameCube 'enhanced' version of the arcade classic Donkey Kong Jr is also included, meaning that everyone who buys Donkey Konga can play the old timer once before getting bored of it and never bothering ever again.

However, the big question on the GameCube community’s lips is when will a true Donkey Kong platform game hit the machine? No announcement as yet, not even a rumbling in the Nintendo jungle, though it’s widely expected that something will be revealed in the coming months.

Donkey Konga, complete with its bonkers bongo drum, is expected to hit Japan this Christmas, with the rest of the world seeing a roll-out for Easter 2004.
