According to reports leaking from Konami USA over the weekend, the firm is currently trying to secure lucrative movie tie-ins for two of its biggest franchises, following the sale of the film rights to Silent Hill earlier this year.
Specifically, Konami is looking to sign off Metal Gear Solid for what sources close to the firm are calling “a significant amount for a major picture.”
Indeed, it is believed that a high-profile, big-budget movie has already been penned to some degree, with the game's creator, Hideo Kojima - an avid filmmaker himself - set to have “significant input” into any motion picture release.
Another franchise reportedly set for the celluloid treatment is Konami’s acclaimed vampire action platformer Castlevania. According to our sources, the deal-making for a Castlevania movie is “in an advanced stage”, leading us to believe that an announcement regarding cast and filming dates may be made in the coming weeks, perhaps at next week’s Tokyo Game Show.
Insiders also suggest that the Metal Gear Solid movie is likely to end up in the hands of one of Hollywood’s major studios, whereas Castlevania is likely to be made in Japan.
An interesting story this one, we’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
