We can reveal today that Square Enix will not be showing the long-awaited Final Fantasy XII at this month’s Tokyo Game Show, scuppering fans’ hopes of a glimpse of the game.
Speaking to us today, a Square Enix representative said, “Final Fantasy (XII) is somewhat too big a game to just roll out at the show. It is so important, both to gaming and to [Square Enix] that a show of its own is planned for later this year, perhaps in late October or early November.”
The game will not be shown in any form at this year’s event, though promotional materials will adorn SE’s stand and merchandise will be available to buy.
There has been something of a backlash following this news in Japan, where the amazingly loyal Final Fantasy fanbase is used to seeing what it wants, when it wants. However, perhaps they should spare a thought for European RPG fans, who’ve yet to have Final Fantasy XI announced in any shape or form.
We’ll bring you full coverage of everything Final Fantasy, right here, as it breaks.
