Online Dragon Quest plea shows Square-Enix rift
Is Final Fantasy over-powering the DQ franchise?
When speaking to press yesterday in Tokyo, head of mobile operations, Yosuke Saito, made some telling remarks over the future of the Dragon Quest series and the politicking that appears to be going on at the recently merged RPG giant.
“I have asked president Wada-san on several occasions to consider a major Dragon Quest game for the PlayStation 2,” he said. “Many of us think that an online game in the series would work very well. We have the PlayOnline infrastructure already in place. I will continue to petition for this game.”
Most would have though that a green light for an online Dragon Quest (a guaranteed massive seller in Japan) would have been given. Perhaps this adds further weight behind the Dragon Quest for Xbox chatter that emerged earlier this year.
