Konami bracing for financial troubles?
News from Japan this morning sees Konami, one the country's longest-standing developer/publishers, preparing for what appears to be a torrid quarterly results announcement.

Indeed, according to reports today, greater accountability at development level is being sought by the firm's board, resulting in a Sega-esque development consolidation program.

Specifically, the three studios currently based out of Osaka will be rolled into one, carrying the name Konami West. The two development studios in Tokyo will be merged and known from hereon in as Konami East.

As-yet unannounced board-level executives will be charged with the running of the new subsidiaries, with clerical staff being mixed between the two.

It is believed by analysts that Konami is poised to announce relatively poor financial results to its shareholders next month, and this pre-emptive strike is seen as the beginning of cost-cutting at development level without the need to offload staff.

We'll bring you clearer details from the meeting next month.
