As we reported several months ago, id Software, freshly ravaged by a recent security breach, will indeed be putting Doom III on public playtest at QuakeCon.
Held at Adam's Mark Hotel from August 14-17 in Dallas, the annual event will see the multiplayer aspects of Doom III shown for the first time.
"What better way to celebrate QuakeCon than to unveil to our fans a preview of Doom 3 multiplayer," said Todd Hollenshead, big cheese at id. "While everyone knows that Doom 3 is the most terrifying and scary single-player experience ever created, multiplayer delivers the intense competitive action that our fans can count on. It's a natural to debut the Doom 3 multiplayer experience at QuakeCon, the world's pre-eminent fan-based multiplayer gaming event."
Something of Quake 4 is also expected from QuakeCon, the huge LAN gaming celebration put on by id Soft each year. We'll bring you coverage from the show, hopefully with news of the Xbox version of Doom III's multiplayer goodies.
