Sega’s AM-2 team has released the first screens taken from the hotly anticipated Outrun 2, bringing squeals of delight to the lips of Sega fans around the world.
As we exclusively revealed to the world several months ago, the game is underway for the Xbox-based Chihiro arcade platform, with an Xbox port hot on its heels.
Displaying what might be considered as wasted licensing prowess, Suzuki has managed to convince Ferrari to let the team incorporate several of its cars, with the awesome F50 taking pride of place.
Certain gameplay elements have also been revealed, not the least the emphasis on drift-led play. The initial release that accompanies the game states that in order to be successful, a lot of reverse-lock steering will be required.
The game follows the originals closely, with the key words being described by Suzuki as “long journey, beauty and scenery.”
There is also a great focus on the female occupant of the car in this game. She rides in the “suicide seat” and will give the player directions as to the route she wishes to take, and how fast to go at certain points. By making her happy - not crashing and so forth - various different endings can be enjoyed.
We should also point out that the screens included are not from a finalised version, meaning that when it finally hits the arcades and Xbox, a true Sega visual treat is in store.
Enjoy for now and we’ll bring you updates as they break. And remember, Outrun 2, for Chihiro and Xbox was exclusive, right here, way back in January.
