Nintendo has taken the first important steps towards stamping out the endemic piracy suffered in the East, and in particular China, winning a case against famed exponents of piracy-enabling goods, Lik-Sang.
Following Nintendo’s objection and subsequent filing against Lik-Sang’s range of back-up products for Game Boy, a judge in Hong Kong has ordered the firm to pay initial damages of US$641,000, with more to follow.
“This was an important case for Nintendo in battling Internet piracy at its source," said Jodi Daugherty, director of anti-piracy at Nintendo. "We're continuing to take aggressive actions in China."
Lik-Sang still has to face action taken by Sony and Microsoft, both of whom have their targets set on the Hong Kong outfit.
