Gran Turismo 4 truths see figure backdown
In the run up to E3, various Japanese press conferences saw amazing, almost unbelievable figures touted as to what will be included in the final version of Gran Turismo 4.

Well, today the SCE spin machine has been sidestepped, with Polyphony finalising the game’s still-impressive content figures.

Indeed, far from the thousand, or two thousand cars previously forecasted, a mere(!?) 500 will be included, an incredible figure by anyone’s standards. Polyphony will also deliver 50 tracks, though whether some of these will be reverse versions was not disclosed.

Pleasingly, a commitment to artificial intelligence was made by the development team. Gran Turismo 3, although arguably the most impressive console game ever seen, was panned by its critics, and rightly so, for its dire AI routines. Polyphony has this time taken “…great pains” to ensure human-like behaviour on track, seeing an end to the robot-type races of the past.

What’s more, the already standard-setting replay mode will be greatly enhanced, though in fairness, we cannot see how this is possible. Perhaps Kazunori and co will fly you out to a racetrack and re-enact your endeavours?

We are really looking forward to the PlayStation 2’s swansong killer-app and you can expect coverage of any snippet of news as it breaks.
