We brought you news last week that told of a new law passed in Washington that makes it an offence to supply anyone under the age of 17 with video game material that depicts violence against police officers.

As expected, the bill has been opposed, with the constitution waved under the writers’ noses. US industry trade body IDSA (Interactive Digital Software Association) has moved to block the law, which would levy a $500 fine on offenders.

“We’re confident that our position will be affirmed in court," said IDSA president Douglas Lowenstein. "If the goal is to keep games out of the hands of kids for whom they are not appropriate then the answer is to focus on parental education and awareness of the ESRB ratings, not to try to turn retailers into parents."

We’ll bring you the outcome of this legal wrangling as it breaks.
