In the E3 issue of Famitsu, head of Sony's Polyphony Digital studio, Yamauchi Kazunori, confirmed what had been pretty well known for some time. That Gran Turismo 4 will be the last in the series for the ageing PlayStation 2 platform.
"We have taken the PlayStation 2 to its limit and feel there is no more room for advancement of the series," said the man who drinks petrol. "The next game will be on the PS3, don't ask me anything more…"
This little snippet really does highlight the position of the PlayStation 2 as it currently stands. The machine is just over three years old, though in the eyes of most watchers has seen its technological peak arguably sooner than the industry standard. Although most believe that PlayStation 3 chatter is premature, if the PS2's master craftsman can offer no more, surely the next machine must be round the corner?
