Play on the EyeToy with EyeToy: Play

Fights, Camera… Action!

I spy, with my little eye, something beginning with 'F'. Yes, that's right, it's the Forthcoming European release date for the PS2 EyeToy. The USB cameras should be sat on top of TVs Europe-wide sometime in July (September in UK ). The first game to make full use of the optical gizmo is EyeToy: Play. Although the camera could be used to more subtle ends in future releases, Eyetoy: Play has a 20-20 focus on novelty value.

As the camera monitors your movements, the player can see him/herself trapped within the confines of the TV, flailing around wildly in reaction to the animations on-screen. That could prove quite surreal if enjoyed for prolonged periods of time. Fortunately for the more mal-coordinated among us, the movements needed to play the games are relatively simplistic (as are the games themselves) and won't require too much choreography or yoga-style freakiness.

Contained in EyeToy: Play are:

Beat Freak - Hit speakers in time to the music
Boogie Down - Strut your funky thang in time to the music
Boxing Champ - Punch a big robot boxer, bobbing and weaving to avoid its fists
Ghost Catcher - Grab at escaping ghosts and duck from vicious bat attacks
Keep Ups - On the 'ead son… It's keepie-uppie
Kung Fu - Fend of an onslaught of ninjas with fearsome karate chops and kicks
Mirror Time - Pop or dodge bubbles as the screen rotates around you
Plate Spinner - Er… spin plates and watch out for monkeys.
Rocket Rumble - Create your own firework display by detonating colourful rockets
Slap Stream - Giant rodents pop out of the clouds, and you have to give 'em a slap
UFO Juggler - Frisbee-throw flying saucers off the screen
Wishi Washi - Polish your TV screen from the inside!
