Kill, Force and then Breakdown
Namco seem intent on beefing up the firepower for their 2003 Christmas roster. Following news of Time Crisis 3’s release comes a totally new title: Kill.Switch (PS2, Xbox). This third-person action adventure will place you in the squeak-free sneakers of some stealthy sniping assassins, ridding the world of evil goons from the deserts of the Middle East to the depths of the ocean floor.

There’s a selection of innovative team-based attack strategies to adopt, which are derived from the ‘Offensive Cover System’. You can launch attacks from cunningly concealed hiding-spots and even engage in a spot of ‘Blindfire’: a full-frontal assault with no room for enemy retaliation. With this sort of strategic carnage, Hometek’s Kill.Switch could well be worth flicking on.

Namco’s seemingly insatiable appetite for shooting bad guys continues with the announcement of Extreme Force: Grant City Anti-Crime (PS2, GC, Xbox). Set in the dark urban world conjured up in Dead To Rights, Extreme Force gives you the chance to play an Anti-Crime Squad Member. Obviously you’ll be hard as nails, tooled up to the nines and probably snarling in a menacing fashion. Also ready about Christmas time, there’s now another Namco-made option for all you aspiring vigilantes.

After all that needless violence comes Namco’s Breakdown (Xbox only). OK, so Breakdown is a pant-soiling sci-fi survival horror FPS that will doubtlessly require a fair bit of bloodshed… But, unlike the standard FPS, this won’t be just about shooting. It’s pitched to have a surreal atmosphere, punctuated by puzzles and exploration. It’s still in the early stages though, so there could be a few changes yet. Expect more info to ooze through as E3 unfurls.
