As the new era dawns, at least if you’re an RPG fan, fledgling duo Square Enix, now bonded into one big, cuddly, life-sucking, random-battle-concocting behemoth, has announced that it intends to release Kingdom Hearts 2 at some point this year.
“Although there are still some remaining negotiations with Disney on the matter, we will release a sequel to Kingdom Hearts and make it, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest into three pillars of the company,” said Yoichi Wada in a statement.
Square Enix then went on to say that it was still awaiting a finalised, formal agreement with Disney before it commences development of the game, with sources in Japan indicating that, from SE’s point of view, the Mickey Mouse company is dragging its feet somewhat. Given the disastrous performance of Treasure Planet, both in terms of reviews and box office receipts, we have to say that we’re surprised.
