Exclusive: New Outrun at E3 – Suzuki’s online arcade link-up dreams revealed
We can reveal that a new version of Outrun is almost certain to appear at this year’s Electronics Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles this May.

Sega Japan insiders have confirmed that the project is well underway, over 50% complete, and is “now Suzuki-san’s main focus.”

What’s more, the platform for Outrun has been named as Xbox. “We are led to believe that Suzuki-san is making the code as proprietary for Xbox, which will feature heavy online content. Other versions will follow. There will certainly be link-up with the Chihiro arcade version.”

Indeed, off the record, Sega personnel are excited about Outrun, a game to which all are sworn to silence. The first ever mention of the game was made exclusively to us at last year’s E3, when Suzuki, usually unsqueezable, let us milk out the fact that he was indeed working on a new Outrun, and that it will be an arcade racer, as opposed to a simulator, a la F355 Challenge.

As ever, we’ll monitor this closely and bring you updates as we get them.
