GBA successor: ‘Work underway’
Nintendo has confirmed that a successor to the Game Boy Advance is in the research and development stage at headquarters, following the news that the next home console is also underway quite nicely.

The revelation, one of many to uncharacteristically slip through Nintendo’s notoriously tight information firewall lately, was made by Nintendo America vice president Perrin Kaplin while talking to American press yesterday.

Whether this is to ward off Microsoft and Sony, known to be developing their own handheld platforms, remains to be seen. Senior Nintendo executives, including Jim Merrick, have confirmed that they know about such plans. “Of course Sony will be releasing a [portable] machine, and the fact they haven’t done it yet is somewhat surprising. I have friends at Sony who tell me that there is something going on, and they’re all like, 'Where is it, man?”

Expect to see some exciting handheld happenings at E3 in Los Angeles this May.
