Speaking to assembled press yesterday, Electronic Arts CFO Warren Jensen predicted that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are all poised to announce significant price cuts at this year’s E3, due to take place in Los Angeles in May.
Jenson, in a move that surprised many, said that Electronic Arts expects the PS2, the GameCube and Microsoft's Xbox retail prices to be trimmed by $50 apiece.
Whether this statement was aimed at provoking a three-way paranoia-driven price cut that wouldn’t otherwise have happened, we’ll never know. EA certainly has a lot to gain if home console prices are slashed.
