From April 6-9, London's Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) is to host an exhibition of contemporary art inspired by the cultural appeal of video games. Entitled Primal Art - Portrait of the Artist as a Video Gamer, the event will be, in part, to promote Sony's forthcoming offering Primal and will show off original artwork from the project, together with pieces from students at top UK universities and submissions from the general public.
Throughout the event, a number of seminars will be held, offering attendees an insight into the creative process behind the games industry from some of the UK's top developers. The seminars will also be looking towards raising interest in the industry as a potential career path, with talks outlining such subjects as the potential avenues available to women within the industry and one particular event offering practical advice to students.
PR giant Barrington Harvey is running the aforementioned competition, which offers the chance for one student and one member of the public to display their work at the exhibition. As a bonus, the winning student gets to enjoy a nice period of residence at Sony's Studio Cambridge on work placement. (Warning to students: This may involve actually doing some work, getting out of bed before 2PM and learning to socialise in a state of sobriety.)
