Gradius on PC Engine - ripe for a revamp?
Electronics giant NEC has announced it is to return to the games market after a lengthy absence. The firm will be opening up a new games development and publishing arm in the US called NEC Interchannel, which will release games for all new systems.

Interestingly, former Capcom vice president Clint Kurahashi will take the reins in charge, hinting at close collaboration with the Japanese development community.

“With the wealth of video gaming experience and resources here at NEC, we hope to make an impact in the coming years," said Kurahashi to assembled press overnight.

As you will be aware, NEC launched an impressive 8-Bit machine called PC Engine, or Turbo Grafx 16 in the USA, that was graphically comparable to Sega’s MegaDrive and Nintendo’s SNES. Indeed it was the hardcore gamers’ machine of choice, receiving a wealth of amazing conversions, especially in Japan, of all the hottest games and franchises of the early nineties.

It is now expected that NEC will dip into its impressive back-catalogue and release several PC Engine classics.
