Tasty bird in a robo-suit?

It’s got to be the Metroid movie!

In what is becoming an almost weekly occurrence, a fresh gaming license has been signed up by Hollywood for a movie outing. This time the franchise is Metroid, Nintendo’s long-standing platform-blaster favourite.

The plot sounds formulaic and fun and should transfer well to film. "Story is set in a once peaceful galaxy, which has its prosperity shattered by a startling discovery: On a routine mapping expedition of a planet, a survey crew discovers a new airborne life form - the Metroid. Able to engulf other living beings, feed on their energy, and multiply in great numbers, they prove a terrifying menace. Female bounty hunter Samus Aran is commissioned by the Galactic Federation to eliminate the pests, but she soon discovers that pirates with a stolen Metroid specimen are plotting to breed and build an unstoppable army."

Cool!

The demographic reasons for signing Metroid are plain to see. Samus is dead fit. And dead hard too. And everyone likes a bit of alien action, don’t they? In all seriousness, any Metroid film should pan out well. The production team, Zide/Perry, has worked on such film as Final Destination and American Pie, both of which were well received.
