Sega of America has stated that Peter Moore, the popular and long-standing president of the outfit, has resigned.
The firm revealed the departure, but failed to announce from when it will be effective. Sega also was unwilling to comment on the reason behind the move, stating that it does not comment on the personal lives of its staff. This practically confirms that Moore’s decision was unexpected, and not welcomed by Sega.
Had it been any other way, the firm would have had a corporate statement outlining its future goals, and a proper replacement lined up. As things stand, Moore’s responsibilities are being taken over by Sega Enterprises chief operating officer and financial bigwig Tetsu Kayama.
It is thought likely that Moore’s resignation comes amid growing concerns for Sega’s viability as a top-tier platform agnostic publisher in the US. The company recently stated that it had “hugely underestimated” the dominance of Electronic Arts’ Sports brands in the country, and that this error had been directly responsible for severe losses.
As soon as the real reason emerges, you’ll be the first to know.
