Making his now annual keynote speech at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas Sony president Kunitake Ando made some interesting comments about how the PlayStation will evolve to fit into the firm’s wider plans.
In what has to be seen as a reaction to the speech given by Microsoft’s Bill Gates two days prior, Ando spoke about how electronic delivery of media, including film, music and games, would be enabled by a wider network of Sony products. Furthermore, the network would link to smaller local networks within the home.
Interestingly, the PlayStation 2 unit, the successor of which is to be announced this year or next, was spoken of as the hub for such a move.
Expect something more on media streaming from both Microsoft and Sony at this year’s E3 Expo, due to take place in Los Angeles this May.
