From Metroid to Super Metroid to Metroid Fusion, the late Gumpei Yokoi’s bounty hunter Samus has undertaken several epic adventures and even endured a sex change in the process.
It’s taken 15 years, but the lone space traveller will finally venture into the realms of 3D when Metroid Prime sees a UK release in March 2003.
The decision to transform Samus’ latest and greatest outing from a platform adventure to a first-person shooter was met with no little scepticism in the beginning, but a display of stunning visuals and familiar gameplay traits helped to ease the anxiety of several million hardcore followers of the series.
Nevertheless, it’s finished now, and the response from American and Japanese shores has been very positive, which will make the next three months even more gruelling for those desperate to get hold of Retro’s sequel. We can’t promise you it will live up to the standards of its predecessors, but we’re pretty sure you’ll arrive at your local games stores in droves when Metroid Prime is finally released Easter 2003.
