You may have picked up on intense rumour in the past couple of weeks relating to something going by the name ‘MEGATON announcement’. According to which source you read, this is anything and everything from Nintendo buying Sega; new, key games, one featuring Solid Snake; detailed online functionality for GameCube…the list is endless.
We caught up with a senior staffer from Nintendo Europe recently and had a detailed talk about what this could mean. As you may well know, Nintendo Japan has been famously inept when it comes to communicating with its European arm, so we weren’t holding out much hope. But as it transpires, a new system of co-ordinating major announcements has been put into place by Nintendo, on a global basis, in the last few weeks.
And, according to our source, there is nothing this side of 2002 lined up, in terms of a major announcement at least. There is something to look forward to in spring of next year, as well as “something quite surprising” for E3, but according to Nintendo Europe, nothing in the next month or so.
Of course, if we hear anything, we’ll let you know straight away.
