Latest Zelda screens emerge

Move over Mario, it’s Link’s turn.

Super Mario Sunshine has been given a mixed reception since it launched around the world, with the hysteria being gradually replaced with reluctant acceptance of simply hunting for blue coins. Some even began to question Nintendo’s ability to develop true killer apps.

Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, however, is a different story. Having bravely changed the presentation and managed the fanboy anger, Zelda is complete and ready for shipping in Japan. Its rapid play and fluid control system is a true triumph of gameplay, with Link moving around the game world busily and with purpose.

The cel-shading is perfectly implemented in the final build, with environmental details such as dust and wind now included to dazzling effect.

As you can see from these screens, Zelda really does look the part and, more importantly, it plays fantastically well.

Expect to see Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for GameCube available in stores in the first quarter of next year and stay tuned for details on whether the GameCube versions of Ocarina of Time and Ura Zelda will see a European release.
