Japan. The land of the love simulator and exercise ‘em up. Strange games that rarely make the jump to the wider Western conscious. One of the biggest and most popular series in Japan to have never made this leap is the Dragon Quest series from Enix.
This being said, Enix has recently amalgamated itself into SquareSoft and yesterday announced Dragon Quest VIII, to a euphoric Japanese gaming community.
In production for the PlayStation 2 (the first time the series has made the next-gen hop) Dragon Quest VIII is a classic RPG, with cut-scenes, lengthy turn-based battle systems and everything else usually associated with the genre.
As to whether this latest instalment, carrying the Enix Square brand, will be a success remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more details as they break.
