Nintendo has revealed a device that will enable gamers to play Nintendo’s entire portable back catalogue through the GameCube.
The new peripheral, called GameCube Game Boy Player, sits neatly underneath the GameCube and makes use of one of the machine’s mysterious serial ports. Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games are then inserted at the front.
Excitingly, up to four players can be supported per GBA game, using the GameCube to Game Boy Advance link cable.
“We are hoping that the Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Player will bring a new level of excitement, connectivity and accessibility to our many Game Boy titles,” said Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. “Devices released in the past proved popular with gamers and we expect this to be just as successful.”
Expect to see the GameCube Game Boy Player in stores in the middle of next year.
