In case you didn't know, Toby Gard was the main man behind the original Tomb Raider concept. Before it was decided that Lara would have bumps and curves in all the right places and come from a posh English background, she was Lara Cruz, pirate and pillager extroadinaire on a five page design document.
Of course, the only place to see evidence of this would be Core Design's scrap cupboard or the recent Barbican-held exhibition, Game On. Getting to the original point, Toby wanted to make Tomb Raider a game about pirates. Galleon is a game about pirates. Catch our drift?
Check out the gameplay montage and other movies and you'll see a game that resembles the Tomb Raider you know now, minus the guns and Lara. The action sequences suggest a far more epic adventure than any Lara has ever embarked on, making Galleon a likely candidate to fill the gap that the Tomb Raider games from TR2 onward have left behind.
The latest reports suggest that Galleon will sail into retail in Quarter 1, 2003, for GameCube and Xbox. Point your browser at confoundingfactor.com for a look at the game movies.
