Another day, another portable mobile phone games machine!
You may remember that several months ago, we reported on Red Jade, the handheld gaming platform developed between Sony Ericsson and Red Jade Inc, a California-based wireless games start-up.

You may remember that Ericsson, following an initial $7 million investment in the firm, halted the project to release a gaming playform, after the concept was given the cold shoulder by shareholders. Ericsson has now placed a further £3 million investment with Red Jade and announced that the new machine will hit the market next year.

“One of Ericsson's goals is to expand our global community to include a
younger audience," said Gunnar Tyrsing, Vice President, Ericsson Business
Innovation. "Red Jade promises to deliver products that will revolutionise
wireless entertainment. By investing in companies like this, Ericsson is able to leapfrog the traditional development cycle and bring new technologies to an audience that demands increasingly high-performance products”

The unit, to be called Red Jade, will feature a 64-Bit CPU capable of “console comparable” 3D polygon pushing, a backlit TFT LCD screen and a rechargeable lithium ion battery. In addition, it will be Blue Tooth-enabled for players to download software at high speeds.

We can also reveal that rumour has emerged hinting towards a possible slew of PSOne titles being made available by Sony Computer Entertainment for the device. According to reports, Ericsson will leverage its relationship with Sony to provide its device with the much-coveted software. Furthermore, a possible link-up with the PlayStation 2 has been spoken of.
