Nintendo of Japan has released its first ever software preview discs in Japan, following the company’s refusal or inability to do so in the past.

As we reported several months ago, a policy shift by then president Yamauchi-san saw an agreement drawn up with several key retail chains in Japan to award GameCube game purchasers with a taster of things to come.

Two discs will be released, featuring video footage of Biohazard 0, Legend of Zelda: Winds of Takuto and Mario Party 4. Playable games include Super Monkey Ball 2, Mr Driller: Drill Land and Eternal Darkness.

Thus far, there are no plans for a similar release in the US or Europe, though we predict that if the scheme is a success, NOE and NOA will follow. Stay tuned!
