Super Mario Sunshine has sold well across Europe, shifting over 300,000 copies within its first nine days on commercial release, reported Nintendo of Europe today.

Despite being accused of exhibiting ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ syndrome and complaints that the game is buggy, the lure of Mario was too strong to resist here, as it was in the US and Japan.

However, the release of Nintendo’s first first-party killer was not enough to hold back the price-cut powered Xbox, at least in the UK, where sales of Microsoft’s black beast overtook those of the GameCube.

We’ll keep you updated on how all consoles fare throughout the world as anything interesting emerges. It will be interesting to see if Zelda can revive the flagging GameCube when it launches.
