We can reveal that the next instalment of Sega Rally will initially be created exclusively for PlayStation 2 as part of Sega’s until-now top-secret online racing league.
Following on from yesterday’s revelation that the next Daytona game will debut on Xbox as part of Microsoft’s Xbox Live offering, we can now tell you that a bigger picture is emerging, a bigger picture that will please racing gamers and fulfil their wildest dreams.
Sega will initially release Sega Rally 3, as it is tentatively known, for PlayStation 2, making up part of Sony’s comparatively sparse online offering. As with Daytona, a whole host of customisable options will be available to the player, including several different racer shells.
Following on from the initial PlayStation 2 launch, an Xbox and possibly a GameCube version will be released, again offering cross-platform online racing.
Far from being stand-alone titles, Daytona and Sega Rally will form part of Microsoft and Sega’s wider online vision. Players will be able to compete in race series encompassing both of these games, as well as one-off races and rallies, to be organised centrally by the Xbox Live team.
We’ll bring you more on Sega and Microsoft’s online activities, as well as dedicated exclusive Sega updates, as they break.
