Konami of Japan has removed the Xbox version of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance from its release schedule, sparking furious rumour that the game has been pulled.
Although several reports are circulating stating that Konami has canned the game due to an insufficient installed user base in Japan, these are all mere speculation and should not be believed.
Konami’s official stance on the matter is that MGS 2: Substance had a strong showing at this year’s Tokyo Game Show and will be hitting the Xbox worldwide early next year. The thought of Microsoft allowing such a high-profile game to be abandoned for these reasons is simply unthinkable, as its cash-cow status within the games industry becomes more legendary by the day.
Interestingly, there is strong rumour coming from our sources in Japan that says the next full remake of Kojima’s classic stealth series, the as yet unnamed Metal Gear Solid 3, will be an Xbox exclusive, or at least debut on the Microsoft machine before making its way the more familiar black box from Sony.
Whatever happens, you’ll find out here, first.
