JAMMA Show report
Some exciting things were revealed at this year’s JAMMA Show which is drawing to a close over in Japan.

The Chihiro, the arcade system company developed between Sega and Microsoft and based on Xbox hardware, was unveiled for the first time to the delight of the assembled masses. Again, Sega’s GD-Rom is the preferred medium, as seen on the Dreamcast. At this point in time, the only game to be confirmed for the system is House of the Dead 3. Disappointingly, no online demonstration of the arcade standard hooking up to Xbox Live was made.

Sega then made a shock announcement. Representatives said that as well as developing the TriForce with Namco and Nintendo and the Chihiro with Microsoft, the firm is planning an update to the Naomi system, already in its second phase. The imaginatively named Naomi 3 has not been given a release date and no titles were revealed.

Some new details concerning Capcom’s new 3D fighter, Capcom Fighting All-Stars were revealed as the game went on show for the first time. Coming straight from left field, Capcom has opted to make a true-3D fighter, not a Pseudo 3D update to the EX series as was widely expected. The game utilises five buttons, two punch buttons and two kick. The fifth button is a counter button and, according to reports, the game plays similarly to Tecmo’s Dead or Alive. New characters to revealed included Poison from Final Fight and Alex from Street Fighter III.

Disappointingly, there were no new TriForce games on show. This seems strange as Namco, Nintendo and Sega have all stated that new titles should be playable by this time. You may remember that in the light of F-Zero AC not being present at E3, Sega Amusement Vision’s Toshihiro Nagoshi said it should be playable at JAMMA.
