Latest Japanese hardware sales figures emerge
The latest hardware sales figures from Japan have emerged and, as ever, make for some interesting reading.

Between August 26 and September 1, Sony again shifted a bumper stack of PlayStation 2 hardware units, 63,350, up from the previous week’s performance of 57,689.

The GameCube, still resurgent from the release of Super Mario Sunshine and the promised 2002 release of Legend of Zelda, sold 14,473 machines at retail, one of its biggest weeks since launch.

The Game Boy Advance, an ever-present force in leading hardware sales by example, shifted another 37,974 units of handheld gaming joy.

Sony’s other offering, the PSOne, now aimed at a younger audience and massively discounted, sold 3,155 units.

Microsoft’s Xbox continues to struggle in its campaign to win over a Japanese user base, recording some of its lowest weekly sales yet seen. A mere 3,287 machines were sold at retail in Japan, sparking rumour that the US software giant is poised to throw a huge amount of cash at a major Japan-friendly project in the next few months.

Stay tuned for more as we get it.
