Nintendo deal to sink the Swan?
A deal has been agreed between Nintendo and Bandai that will see the Digimon and Pokemon creators team up for an, as yet, undisclosed software project.

This surprising news, to be clarified early tomorrow, comes after Bandai again failed to show its latest offering, the WonderSwan Crystal, to a Western audience. It was widely expected that Bandai would show its machine at this year’s ECTS event.

Nintendo spokesman Ken Toyoda said today "a statement will be issued tomorrow. We are aiming to co-operate with Bandai on videogame software."

This really is startling news as Bandai and Nintendo are direct rivals in the Japanese handheld market. It is also surprising that Nintendo’s agreement with Square to release Final Fantasy games for the Game Boy Advance hasn’t caused a rift between the firms. Prior to SquareSoft and Nintendo agreeing to begin GBA Final Fantasy development, Bandai’s WonderSwan was the only portable home to the best-selling series.

We’ll bring you an update as soon as we get one.
