The winners of the most prestigious awards in the European interactive entertainment industry were announced in London today at ECTS - Europe's premier trade show for interactive entertainment. The awards were presented in a ceremony hosted by Whizzbang TV's Gareth Jones and attended by over 1000 leading industry figures in the trade hall of ECTS itself.
The full line-up of winners is:
- MCV Best of British Award - Criterion
- PC Format Best New Games Kit Award - Nvidia Geforce 4
- The Develop Magazine Award for British Game Design Innovation - Rockstar North for GTA3
- The Edge Award - SCEI for Ico
- PC Gamer Best PC Game Developer - Creative Assembly for Medieval
The following awards were voted for by more than 750 visitors to the ECTS web site:
- Best Console of the Year - PlayStation 2
- Best PC Hardware - Gainward Geforce 4 'Powerpack' Ultra/750XP Golden Sample
- Best Console Game of the Year - Grand Theft Auto 3
- Best PC Game of the Year - Medal of Honour: Allied Assault
- Publisher of the Year - Electronic Arts
The Game of the Show Awards were voted for by a panel of elite European journalists and presented at ECTS to the following lucky winners:
- Overall Best Game of the Show - Splinter Cell
- Best PC Game of the Show - Breed
- Best Console Game of the Show - Pro Evolution Soccer 2
- Best Handheld Game of the Show - Super Monkey Ball Junior
- Best Multiplayer Game of the Show - Korean Multiplayer Ping Pong
The winners of the European Game of the Year Awards, as voted for by the readers of seven key European gaming publications, web sites and TV programmes are:
- PC game of the Year France, voted for by the viewers of Game One - Grand Theft Auto 3
