Jon Carmack has finally confirmed the existence of Doom III for Microsoft’s Xbox games system. An Xbox version of the incredible looking title had been widely anticipated as Carmack had said in the past that the Xbox is the only system he felt could handle the game.
Carmack also stated that the Xbox is the only platform id Software has fully committed a version of the game to, but didn’t rule out any future releases on the PlayStation 2 or GameCube.
Interestingly, he also said that the Xbox version will have the "full graphics fidelity" of the PC version which is an amazing statement when you consider how impressive the original build of the game looks.
Later in his keynote speech at the close of this year’s QuakeCon event, Carmack said that the porting and build process for the Doom III for Xbox would not commence until the PC version has been released.
More on all this as it breaks.
