Nintendo of Japan has revealed plans to release demo discs for its upcoming GameCube games.
The discs are to be given away in stores for free, when any other purchase is made, rather than attached to magazines, as is common in Europe and the US with PlayStation, PC and Xbox demos.
Nintendo also stated that the demo discs will all be playable mini-versions of its forthcoming releases, not video or any other kind of media.
This is excellent news for the Japanese GameCube community and we sincerely hope that Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo of America follow suit. Having only cartridge-based game media for such a long time hampered Nintendo in terms of its direct marketing abilities throughout the nineties. Sony was able to gift PlayStation owners with all kinds of free fun, whereas the Nintendo player had to make do with screenshots.
We contacted Nintendo of Europe for comment. And guess what…? They had nothing to say on the matter. What a surprise.
