Something momentous happens in Japan tomorrow. Tomorrow, May 31, 2002, the GameCube goes online.

Nintendo and Sega have jointly announced that the first round of beta testing will begin for Yuji Naka’s Epic Phantasy Star Online Versions 1 and 2 will commence tomorrow.

In a joint venture, co-ordinated by Sega and Nintendo, players will be able to hook up their GameCubes, via specially supplied broadband units to the PSO network, still housed and managed by the Sonic Team.

Early adopters enthusiastically ordered Phantasy Star Online Versions 1 and 2 for GameCube from Sega’s Dreamcast Direct online store, and it is a selection of these people who have been chosen for the testing.

Expect progress updates as they break.
