Capcom takes Resident Evil back in time.

Capcom have released more details about the much-anticipated Gamecube exclusive, Resident Evil Zero. The prequel to the existing Resident Evil series, Zero promises to take graphical splendour to a new level, delivering flawless animation, living environments and “the best graphics in a video game ever!” by means of the Gamecube’s advanced processing power. The Resident Evil series, which has sold more than 20 million units since its introduction in 1996, is now exclusive to Nintendo’s machine. Resident Evil Zero is scheduled for a US release this autumn.

The game begins in July 1998 in the suburbs of Racoon City. The S.T.A.R.S Bravo have been sent in to investigate several reported incidents of people being eaten by strange creatures, when the helicopter carrying them to the scene crashes in the forest surrounding the city. Without weapons or equipment, the team emerges from the wreckage and soon discover an overturned transport truck accompanied by several dead Navy officers. The Bravo Team is then ordered to investigate the disappearance of Captain Billy Cowen, supposedly in the truck, but absent from the scene. And so the nightmare begins.

A new game system features in Resident Evil Zero by the name of ‘Partner Zapping’, which allows the player to instantly switch between control of the two main characters at any time. These characters are Rebecca, a rookie Racoon City Police Officer from the original Resident Evil, and Billy, a framed convict on the run.

More details as they emerge.
