We have learned that Sega has won the rights to create games under the ESPN banner, formerly the preserve of Konami.
This will open the doors for Sega to the extreme sports games market, especially in the US where ESPN is a huge brand.
This follows several lukewarm ESPN titles from Konami, all of which meant a poor gaming experience, followed by a fade in popularity. Sega Sports, on the other hand, is a huge brand, especially in the States, where its steady stream of cleverly-licensed sports titles are widely appreciated.
There is also a rumour that Seamus Blackley’s new company, Capital Entertainment Group, is due to deliver at least two games to Sega, is co-ordinating the development of Sega ESPN titles.
More as it breaks.
