Nintendo has announced that it has completed a full acquisition of Retro Studios, the company charged with the update to the Metroid series.
In a notice to its shareholders, Nintendo stated that it had fully acquired Retro Studios, complete with all assets moving forward, for $1,000,000
The motivation behind the move was not announced. There has been considerable pressure placed by Nintendo upon Retro Studios for a considerable amount of time. The company was always largely funded by Nintendo and last hit the headlines when it cancelled one of its planned GameCube titles and laid off staff in order to invest more time in the next-gen Metroid update.
Whether Nintendo’s move was forced due to problems at Retro, or it felt the firm would be a good investment for the future was not revealed.
The good news is that Metroid will at last be on show at this year’s E3.
