God lord but Microsoft and 343 Industries really do know how to make the most of one IP across several media. Halo is going positively platform bonkers with the releases of Halo 5: Guardians the game, Halo: The Master Chief Collection the compilation of old games with some make-up on, and Ridley Scott's Halo Nightfall the digital series.Tying the last two - and the first new foray into harvesting Halo fans since Bungie skipped off to its
Destiny - is a new and thus far mysterious Spartan. Well, now that character can be revealed...
343 studio head Bonnie Ross told
Eurogamer at E3 that the new character is called Agent Locke. And it's a he, a bloke; a space bloke.
According to Bonnie, Locke has a "key role" in
Halo 5. Locke's back-story, however, will be revealed via the
Halo Nightfall, series. The first episode of this is expected to come bundled in with
Halo: The Master Chief Collection on 11th November 2014.
What we do know of Locke is that, "He is human, he's always been human, but at the end of Halo 4 he really is reflecting on who he is and why he exists. That was very deliberate because the story we want to tell on Xbox One really is an important part and the main part of his hero's journey. It's more about what he's searching for versus what the UNSC is asking him to do."
While we wait, let's catch up with Halo: The Master Chief Collection...
