Sony unveils first network partners
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced the first companies to act as an ISP (Internet service provider) for owners of its PlayStation 2 console in Japan.

Nifty, Japan’s leading ISP, So-Net and the amusingly named Biglobe will all cater for the PlayStation 2, supporting both narrowband and broadband connections.

To enable easy connectivity, Sony is poised to announce a rental program for the PS2 Ethernet and hard drive package, expected to incorporate the ISP’s monthly charge.

Sony’s first PlayStation 2 online game, Final Fantasy XI, hits Japanese stores next month.
