Koji Igarashi, series producer for Castlevania at Konami, made some interesting comments recently about the future of the series. Castlevania is one of Konami’s longest standing, most successful franchises, dating back almost twenty years.
When asked for his thoughts on the GameCube, Igarashi said, “I think the GameCube/Game Boy Advance link-up idea is interesting, and that's something we're considering for the future. As for Castlevania titles on GameCube, I can't say anything at the moment. In the general sense, we're researching possibilities for the series in 3D. We're also interested in possible network compatibility, so we're trying to match our developmental ideas with the appropriate console.”
Hmm… PlayStation 2 seems a distinct possibility for the future of Castlevania. As SCE gears up the network process for its console, more and more developers will gain an interest in producing online titles for it. As far as a GameCube/GBA link goes, you just might see some sort of announcement at E3.
